Who we are

UN Plus (www.unplus.org) is a global group of United Nations staff who are living with HIV. Established in March 2005, UN Plus demonstrates UN reform in action with over 200 members from across UN agencies and associated programmes worldwide. Although HIV is not only about health, one of the issues UN Plus advocates for is the right to quality healthcare services for all UN staff, irrespective of their HIV status, duty station or contractual arrangements.

The Context and the Contest

Depending on where someone is born, the family they are born into, the lifestyle they choose and the care they require, access to quality and affordable healthcare often poses a challenge in a day to day life. If an individual is living with HIV or any other chronic condition, cost and access to appropriate services for treatment and care, as well as issues relating to confidentiality of private information, or even physical distance to the nearest clinic, hospital or pharmacy, can all become issues of major concern.

This is why we have decided on the theme of Access to Healthcare for All for our 2013 Calendar. We hope all UN staff members who are interested in joining this cause through artistic expression will become involved. We believe that all UN staff should have access to quality and affordable healthcare regardless of whether they are living with HIV or another life-threatening chronic health condition. We hope to advocate for their rights through our 2013 Calendar in order to raise awareness about the need for improved and equitable Access to Healthcare for All within the UN system and beyond.
